Working with schools

Many schools have told us about the pressures on people and time that they face. They asked Reading Quest to help. We put together a team of expert Reading Quest Core Tutors.

Specially trained tutors help each child explore a tailor-made programme. Each child has a 1-1 half-hour lesson in school four days a week for 6 weeks.

Progress is tracked. The results are impressive. Measured by reading age, children make, on average, 7 months’ progress in reading and in spelling during the 6 weeks of the programme.

Pilot work in the East Oxford area was generously funded by The Roald Dahl Foundation and the Big Lottery Fund.

Currently only available in the Oxford area.

Who is it for?

Children are usually put forward for Reading Quest by their class teachers if they are making a slower-than-expected start in learning to read.

Most are aged 6 or 7, but some are on the brink of secondary school.
Some find school hard to adjust to and lack confidence as learners.
Many don’t speak English at home.
Some don’t get much support from their parents.
Some live in care.
A few have learning difficulties.
