Our Big Lottery Project

Reading Quest is delighted to have a five-year project supported by The Big Lottery Fund to work in schools in East Oxford and Cowley. The project started in April 2010 and we are now in our fourth year. The results from Year Three continue to be very encouraging.

The £285,906 project means we can work in seven schools within the Isis Head Partnership. It enables us to teach 750 pupils over the duration of the project (150 a year) and we know our work will help support the pupils, their families, the teachers and schools.

As part of the project, we run Family Libraries, where pupils and their parents/carers are invited along to share books or games together before or after school on a regular basis. This work hugely encourages literacy work in the home where previously there may have been no support.

We also hold celebration assemblies in each school each term to rejoice in the hard work and advances by the pupils. They are a great chance for us to congratulate the pupils, say thank you to the schools for hosting our work and to meet parents/carers afterwards for some tea and cake.

  • It was a really positive experience for my daughter. I have talked to a parent who has a child in Year 4 at school and they also had a really positive experience. It was like a club.
